Kirklees Council is committed to supporting the growth and expansions of local businesses and ensuring that they are sustainable in today’s competitive economy. Our business team respond to the needs of employers with one-to-one support and local initiatives, as well as running a number of events across the year. Over the course of the past year, more than £730,000 of business rate relief was given to local manufacturers who were worst hit by the recession. We also partner with other organisations like the Chamber of Commerce and Business Link, to deliver a comprehensive support and brokerage service for companies of all sizes including smaller companies.
As part of the council’s ambition to combat climate change, free environmental support is available to all Kirklees businesses through the Green Business Network. Thanks to this support, local companies are already reducing their costs as well as their carbon footprint.
And, on a larger scale, we work hard to secure private and public sector investment into the District in order to boost the local economy, aid regeneration and provide more opportunities for local people.

Kirklees College came into being in August 2008 through a merger between Dewsbury College and Huddersfield Technical College. Both Dewsbury College and Huddersfield Technical College have an illustrious past and, through Kirklees College, a successful future together.
